Keeping in mind that art marketing is crucial besides individual art practices, the primary objective for Chhobi O Ghor is to bring and promote lesser-known artistes to the art enthusiasts. The Chhobi O Ghor organized their first visual art exhibition, titled Let the Spring Come, in Nandalal Bose Gallery, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Kolkata on 3 and 4 April, 2021. 100 artistes contributed different mediums of paintings, digital art, calligraphy, photography and craft works to the exhibition, and more than 700 visitors encouraged the initiatives by their significant presence. 25 artworks among 190 exhibited, and 13 craft items among 24 displayed were sold during the exhibition.
Among the artistes who participated in the exhibition- Kakali Mondal, Aaratrika Roy, Anittama Das, Megha Garodia wanted to explore paintings as the expression of their own mental, physical experiences and perspectives of life; while for Anamika Samanta, Ishita Basu Mallik, Maitreyee Das, Pradipta Saha, it was a healing/ therapeutic and meditative process. Some artistes delved into abstractions for the aesthetic expressions of their experiences.
These artistes deliberately articulated their opinions regarding art and their own engagements with the particular artistic forms. The participating artistes tried to expand the known horizon of art practice, and engage with new innovative processes. In Aritra Saha’s photography, audience received a unique tendency to present conventionally un-staged moments; slightly contradictory was Sandipan Chaudhuri’s tendency to capture the grandeur of civilization as a travel photographer (I would like to request the readers to look at the captured colours in both of their photography). Notwithstanding the significant influence of the well known artists in creating the concept of standard and taste for art societies, the Exhibition wanted to reassess people’s aesthetic expectations by showcasing works of the lesser-known/ unknown artistes.
The upcoming second exhibition wants to explore people’s responses to the artistes’ world as messages for the artistes and the organizers. With this note, we are delighted to invite all to the 2nd visual art exhibition, titled The Harvest of Winter, organized by Chhobi O Ghor in Birla Academy of Art & Culture from 2nd to 5th December, 2019.
