Uttam Bhattacharya is a contemporary artist whose works are deeply inspired by human emotions and experiences. He believes in the sublime beauty of humanity, its dreams, and varied expressions. His fascination with human emotion and the complexity of experiences are the bedrock of his creations. Bhattacharya intentionally deviates from realism, instead, he seeks to portray a surrealistic dream world, where figures with closed eyes invite viewers into a mystical exploration of dreams and emotions. His palette is a metaphor for the human condition, with dark colors signifying pain and bright hues symbolizing dreams and hopes.
His notable achievements include having his work selected for the prestigious "ai100" book by Arts Illustrated, where he was also acknowledged as one of the top 20 contemporary artists. His paintings have been selected for the annual exhibition of the West Bengal Charukala Parishad in 2017 and 2019.
Bhattacharya has showcased his works in several solo exhibitions, including "Chitraksha" at Grant Hall, Berhampore in 2019, and “Mélange 2014” at Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta, among others. His group exhibitions include the 7th Dimensions at Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi in 2022, Kolkata Art Fair at ICCR Kolkata in 2022, and the exhibition for "ai100" book launch in Chennai in 2022. His art represents a journey into the depths of human experiences, revealing the rhythms of life, and the ever-present cycle of joy, despair, hope, and resilience.
