Shuvaprasanna
Born into the cultural tapestry of Kolkata in 1947, Shuvaprasanna has etched an indelible mark on the world of art. With his academic foundation in fine art laid at the Indian College of Art (under RB University, Kolkata) in 1969, he embarked on a journey that has taken his art to every corner of the world. Throughout his illustrious career, Shuvaprasanna has held 62 solo exhibitions both nationally and internationally. His artistry has graced major group exhibitions, and he has represented Indian art in significant global events such as the III Asian Art Biennial in Bangladesh, the II International Biennials in Havana and Ankara, and the VII International Triennial in New Delhi, to name just a few. Shuvaprasanna's international acclaim is further evidenced by his visits and engagements under renowned sponsorships: USIA in the USA, British Council in England, and Inter-Nations in Germany. He has also been part of pivotal international projects and workshops, including those at the Museum of Modern Art in Sitomo, Japan, and the Indo-German Workshop during the German Festival in India. A multifaceted genius, Shuvaprasanna has worn many hats – not just as a painter but also as a writer, editor, and publisher. His literary contributions span across various books on art, literature, and regular columns in newspapers. Notably, his autobiography 'Aamar Chobi Jiban' and 'Mone Rakha Taara' have found favor among readers, with his latest offering being 'CROW OWL CAT'. Recently Niyogi Publisher published ‘Shuvaprasanna, A man for all seasons’ by Sushma K Bhal. His commitment to the arts is also reflected in his foundational contributions to institutions such as the College of Visual Arts and the Arts Acre Foundation in Kolkata. Films like 'Reality and Beyond' and 'Shuva and me' have celebrated his life and legacy, with the latter chronicling his meeting with German literary giant Günter Grass. The array of awards adorning Shuvaprasanna’s mantle includes the AIFACS Award, State LKA Award, Birla Academy Award, and the 'Banga Vibhushan' by the Govt. of West Bengal. His works grace esteemed collections, including those at NGMA, LKA Delhi, Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Kolkata, and The Museum of Modern Art, Sitomo, Japan. Currently, as the Executive Trustee of the Arts Acre Foundation, Shuvaprasanna continues to be a beacon of inspiration, championing art and creativity on a global scale.
