I've been working as a cinematographer in the film industry for ten years, but my love for photography began much earlier. I was twelve when I first used a point-and-shoot camera that belonged to my uncle, and I’ve been drawn to capturing the world ever since. Recently, while filming Goat Fish Snake Sparrow, an ethnographic documentary on the Koda tribe near Bolpur, I discovered that their language is on the verge of extinction. It has no written form and is spoken by only a few people. During the shoot, I met Kolabonti Koda, a peasant and singer, and a group of young girls who still perform traditional songs and dances. The Koda believe that with every elder’s death, seven words are lost forever. This powerful experience inspired me to document their stories and songs through my lens. I'm honoured that the film was officially selected and premiered at the 2025 DOXA Documentary Film Festival in Canada.
